When writer Laurie Easter told me that she’d started a weekly highlight-and-review series featuring writers she knows, that she focuses on a particular essay each time, and that she’d like me and my list essay to stand under her spotlight for an upcoming Sunday, I thought:

- By highlighting fellow writers’ lives, processes, and finished work, Laurie models how the literary community can be a league of cooperation.
- Answering questions about how/why I wrote a particular essay, when much of my time is devoted to the needs and tomfoolery of three boys three and under, is sincerely a pleasure.
- Laurie’s a super person, and a selfless one too.
