For Writers

7 Sins Writing

Claire, Cheryl, and I created the essay series “7 Deadly Sins of the Writing Life,” in which we explore the ways Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, and all the rest affect, inform, and reshape our writing lives.

Waterwheel Review

Along with fiction writer Claire Guyton and poet Cheryl Wilder, I am founder and editor of Waterwheel Review. We publish three short pieces of original written work online per month (September through May) without labeling by genre.

Westport Writers’ Workshop

I teach workshops on personal essay, small wonders, read like a writer, and other offerings at Westport Writers’ Workshop, a non-profit, independent literary arts center that offers high-quality creative writing classes, community events, and outreach to underserved and special populations.

Longridge Review

Since its foundation in March 2015, I have been on the editorial staff of Longridge Review. The journal’s mission is to present the finest essays on the mysteries of childhood experience, the wonder of adult reflection, and how the two connect over a lifespan.

AWP Writer to Writer

I served as a mentor in AWP’s tenth season of Writer to Writer. I was paired with Donna Tallent, a thoughtful and talented writer who has become a dear friend. In W2W’s 14th season, I was paired with Angela Dribben, an impressive poet and writer. To any established writer who may want to serve as a mentor, and to any emerging writer who may wish to apply, I can’t say enough positive things about this program.
